Times Private Treaties Backs IT Brand Building

Times Private Treaties is backing brand building for IT firms in a big way with investments across a slew of IT firms. The Times Private Treaties has spread its investment across a mix of IT firms in pursuance of its strategy of expanding the advertising market and bringing a larger number of firms into the advertising market.

Times Private Treaties identifies advertising shy entrepreneurial companies and offers brand building and advertising support in BCCL vehicles in return for equity in these companies. This model eases the cash flow of a company so that resources set aside for brand building activities can be used toward business growth & expansion.

Times Private Treaties today has investments in a range of IT companies including Allied Digital Services, Adrenalin eSystems, ANM Soft, Apna Circle, Indiamart, Micro Technologies, Sai Infosystems, Satnav Technologies, Styx Infosoft (Azure) and Wings Infonet.

This is particularly significant given that the top three categories for ad spend growth in 2008 according to a Nielsen report were education (52%), telecom/Internet service providers (39%) and retail (33%). By reaching out and building advertising relevance for IT, Times Private Treaties seems to be well on its way to creating new markets as professed by it.

Mr. Sivakumar Sundaram, CEO-Designate, Times Private Treaties, says that a key objective of Times Private Treaties is to increase the advertising base of BCCL by bringing in many first time advertisers.

According to Mr Sivakumar, “Indian market has traditionally been commodity based rather than brand driven, which explains why only around 15,000 brands are actively advertised in India as compared to about ten lakh in the US, for instance. This presented an opportunity to us to increase our advertising base by bringing in many first time advertisers. However it required a unique and innovative approach which resulted in starting up of Times Private Treaties.”
